Auditory Processing (CAPD)

Central Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD) is a central auditory nervous system hearing impairment. CAPD is a condition that is characterized by school/work difficulties, needing frequent repetition, struggling to hear in the presence of background noise, and needing sounds at a louder level than others in the presence of a normal diagnostic hearing evaluation. CAPD testing includes a variety of subtests to assess different skills including: Auditory Discrimination, Temporal Processing, and Binaural Integration. If CAPD is diagnosed, a treatment plan will be discussed.
Treatment Plans for CAPD
Depending on the sub-type of CAPD, there are different management and treatment options to help. These can include environmental adjustments, remote microphone and on-ear receiver solutions, traditional amplification, or aural rehabilitation programs. Your audiologist will evaluate and discuss the right treatment options for you.
