Hearing Evaluations

A hearing evaluation is a way to check how well you can hear and how well different parts of your ear are working. There are many reasons people get their hearing tested including medical ear problems, family history of hearing loss, gradual changes in hearing, ringing noises in the ears, or even just wanting a baseline for future reference! During your appointment, your hearing care provider will choose an appropriate series of tests to perform based on your medical history and hearing concerns. All tests are non-invasive and generally pain-free. At the end of your appointment, your provider will discuss results of the evaluation and recommendations moving forward.
What's the benefit?
A diagnostic hearing evaluation is the only way to confidently evaluate the presence of hearing loss, its severity, and the type of hearing loss present. Hearing should be checked at birth and again at age 50. After that, it should be checked every few years, and starting at age 60, annual checks should be scheduled. Regular hearing evaluations are important for early identification of hearing loss and early treatment. Research shows significant health benefits to starting hearing aid use as soon as hearing loss has been identified.
What comes after the evaluation?
Depending on the outcomes of the hearing evaluation, we may do a consultation for options to treat your hearing health needs. For some, that is aural rehabilitation programs, tinnitus maskers, hearing aids, or a combination. Since hearing loss can be associated with other medical conditions, we will work with you and your doctor to ensure your concerns are addressed by all appropriate specialists.
